A Note on Codecs

XvidD is an MPEG-4 complient video codec provided by www.xvid.org. A version for Microsoft can be downloaded from Koepi. Linux users are advised to use the excellent mplayer.

MP3 is the most popular audio codec on the Internet. It is included with Windows, Mac and most Linux distributions.

PDF is a proprietry format for printed documents, created by Adobe which provides a reader for these files (for Microsoft, Linux and Mac). Linux users can also use xpdf and gv.

Linux

The video and audio files were created on Linux using the latest versions of XviD and LAME, and can be played using MPlayer, XMMS, xine, or one of the many other media players.

Most modern Linux distributions should already include the appropriate libraries (libxvidcore for XviD and libmp3lame for MP3). If yours doesn't then look at the homepage of the distribution first.

Otherwise try rpmfind for RPM based distributions (RedHat, Mandrake, Suse, etc.) or Christian Marillat's site for Debian packages (also used by Knoppix, etc.)
