Goals

Our goal is to bring people together in the name of science, in order that they may learn more about it, more about how to do it, and more about how to interest and teach others about it. We believe that science is an extremely worthwhile pursuit in which to engage, whether just for sheer enjoyment and intellectual enrichment, or for the direct economic advancement it can bring.

The process of thinking scientifically and doing science has been one of the most potent sources of positive change throughout history, from, on the one hand, societal change and the founding of new civilizations to, on the other hand, significant impact on an individual in terms of the opportunities to improve their lives through careers in science.

The African Summer Theory Institute is a directed effort to bring together people who are at the many different stages along their personal scientific journey. At ASTI we will sit together, study together, and eat together, all the while exchanging ideas and experiences, and sharing in the joy and profit of doing science.
